Public Servant. Policy Professional.
LGBTQ+ Leader. Advocate. Renter.
Bryan “Bubba” Fish (he/him) is a civil servant and community organizer living in Culver City.
Bubba has been actively involved in civic life in Culver City for several years as a community leader, advocate, and volunteer.
Dedicated Public Servant
Bubba has devoted his career to improving street safety, accessibility, and mobility across the LA region. He currently works as a Transportation Deputy for Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and previously served in Government Affairs at the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to expand transit service and fight traffic violence for our neighbor city of Los Angeles.
Advocate and Organizer
During his two years as Vice Chair of the Committee on Housing & Homelessness, Bubba worked to support unhoused residents and increase affordable housing production. He advocated for the creation of supportive housing and safe sleep projects now providing housing and shelter for over 100 formerly unhoused residents. Bubba also helped conduct Culver City’s annual Homeless Count, which helps the city address the needs of our city’s unhoused population. He also passed resolutions recommending new state laws the city can leverage to accelerate affordable housing production.
As a mobility advocate, Bubba served on the steering committee of Bike Culver City, a local organization working to create safe, sustainable mobility options. Bubba spearheaded successful efforts to abolish parking requirements that drive up housing costs and create the city’s first Slow Streets program, providing families with safe outdoor space to enjoy their neighborhoods. Bubba has been one of Culver City’s most consistent advocates for safer streets and expanded transit service.
LGBTQ+ Leader
Bubba co-created and organized Culver City’s first and only official Pride celebration, which is now an annual event approaching its fourth year, bringing joy to neighbors near and far. Culver City Pride Ride & Rally features the largest Pride Ride in the region, and culminates in Downtown Culver City with a rally celebrating diversity, sustainability, and inclusivity. The festival attracts hundreds of participants with attendance increasing every year.
Public Policy Professional
Bubba worked for two years as Director of State Policy at the safe streets advcacy group, Streets for All, where he sponsored bills to enhance mobility and street safety across the state. Several bills he sponsored are now law and already making California streets safe and accessible for all ages and abilities, including requiring cities to calm traffic on deadly streets, preventing apartments from banning e-bikes, and requiring head starts for pedestrians at intersections.
Bubba earned his Masters in Public Policy at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs, concentrating in Urban Policy.
Early Life
Bubba spent his childhood in Houston, Texas and moved to Los Angeles in 2009 with a scholarship from his temple to attend the University of Southern California. There, he met Aaron after they both joined a Jewish fraternity. They were married eight years later by both of their rabbis.
