Here’s what’s coming to Council tonight!
Hi friends,
I hope you had a lovely weekend enjoying the sunshine.
I wanted to let you know that there’s a Culver City Council meeting tonight at 7 PM.
If you’d like to join us in-person, we will be back at Council Chambers in City Hall and ready to enjoy all the fancy upgrades to the A/V system.
Here are a few important items on tonight’s agenda:
We’ll hear an update on our city’s homelessness emergency declaration which began at the end of 2022.
A-1 will decide who the City Council appoints to the Planning Commission for a nearly 4-year term.
A-2 will be a presentation on the city’s budget including information on its structural deficit.
A-3 will decide whether the city grants a request to loan of $16M to build 93 units of affordable housing.
A-4 will decide whether the city applies for an additional Homekey+ grant from the state to create more affordable housing.
A-5 will decide whether the city should enact more renters protections such as an eviction moratorium given the impact of the wildfires on the housing market.
As always, you can watch in person at Council Chambers or remotely via Zoom.
You can request to speak here or send in a comment electronically here by 3PM or by emailing city.council@culvercity.org.
I hope to see (or hear) you there!
This week around town
Last Thursday was my fourth time participating in the annual point-in-time homeless count— thank you to the volunteers, service providers, housing and homelessness committee, first responders, and city staff for staying up late to make sure every neighbor is counted.
Left: With Councilmember McMorrin before the count.
Right: With service providers from Urban Alchemy after.
The count helps us better understand homelessness in our community so we can build more housing, improve our services, and design more equitable systems.
Aaron and I had a great time connecting with neighbors at the gathering for community group, Our Culver. If you’re looking to get more civically engaged, Our Culver is a great place to start. Check them out here.
Me, Aaron, and Village Well owner Jennifer Caspar at their booth
The Culver City Book Festival at the Wende Museum was a smashing success. The courtyard was packed with folks enjoying books, poetry, and arts! Shout out to the Culver City Arts Foundation for all their hard work.
Left: Me and Aaron with CicLAvia staff member, Olga Lexell.
Right: With Eli Lipmen, Executive Director of MoveLA advocacy group.
CicLAvia West Adams was a blast and got me even more excited about CicLAvia Culver Meets Venice coming up Sunday, August 17!
Thanks for catching up with me. Hope you have a great start to the week!
