First meeting tonight
Hi friends—
I hope you and your loved ones are safe and taking care of one another. The magnitude of the damage from these fires has been difficult to comprehend. I’m thinking of those in our community who have been impacted, exploring how our city can help those in need and how we can make our city more resilient to future climate-related events.
People who contribute to our community every day have lost their homes, including three CCUSD teachers and a member of our City Staff.
The outpouring of support for them shows that we are a community that extends beyond our borders.
If you are able, consider donating to their recovery funds linked below.
Since I last wrote to you, the fire warnings for Culver City and the immediately surrounding areas have lifted, but winds are expected to pick up this week. So please remain vigilant and subscribe to alerts from the Culver City Fire Department here.
You can also continue monitoring the fires at lacounty.gov/emergency and using the Watch Duty site and app.
My colleagues Vice Mayor Puza and Councilmember McMorrin created a handy list of local resources you can view here.
Lastly, Cal Fire has this helpful guide to protecting your home from fires.
We will get through this together.
Tonight is the first meeting of the new Council after the swearing-in last month.
This meeting will be held at the Culver City Senior Center (4095 Overland Ave, Culver City, CA 90232) while council chambers recieves some needed upgrades.
There are more than a few important issues on the agenda, so please join us if you are able. Here are a few highlights:
PH-1 is a public hearing regarding the city’s new fee schedule which has not been updated in well over a decade.
A-1 will decide whether to dissolve a legacy permitting agency of the city.
A-2 will decide whether the city should submit an application for the state’s Homekey+ program to fund Jubilo Village, a 93-unit affordable housing project on Sepulveda.
A-3 will decide whether the city’s Equity and Human Relations Committee should host a community conversation about the violence in Gaza called, “Spark Healing Through Conversation: How The Middle East Crisis Affects Me.”
A-4 will decide which city committees and outside bodies the Councilmembers will serve on.
Hope to see you there.
