Tonight! Digital Kiosks, School Funding, Plastic Bans, & Renters’ Protections

Hey Culver City,

I hope you are having a nice start to your week.

I wanted to let you know: there’s a Council meeting tonight at 7pm! It’ll be the last meeting for four weeks, so please join us in person or on zoom if you are able.

Tonight at 7PM!

Here’s what’s we’re going to discuss tonight at 7PM!

A1 - 🪧 digital kiosks - should the city put up 15 interactive kiosks and split the revenue
A2 - 🏫 funding CCUSD to help close their deficit
A3 - 🛟 renters protections for families impacted by ICE
A4 - 🚬 banning or restricting common pollutants (plastic bottles, cigarette butts, balloons, and plastic bags)

As always, you can watch in person at Council Chambers (9770 Culver Blvd) or remotely on Zoom or Youtube.

You can sign up to speak below or send in your comment by emailing city.council@culvercity.org.

Hope to hear from you tonight!

Last week’s special meeting on ICE raids

Here’s a quick recap of what went down at last week’s special meeting.

  • 👮 Council asked for report of past police mutual aid events and their costs.

  • 🚘 📸 Council temporarily stopped the sharing of data from automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras with all other cities. I advocated to shut the ALPR cameras down completely, due to their well-documented history of being routinely accessed by ICE and other out-of-state agencies.

  • 💰 Council donated $25K to Culver Palms YMCA to feed impacted families and $25k to Immigrant Defenders Law Center.

  • 🚔 Council converted a closed-door police subcommittee to a public subcommittee. This was a proposal I put forth to enable more transparency into the police policies and technologies that impact our lives.

Public safety is our number one responsibility as elected officials and I’m proud of the steps we took last week to better protect our community.

‘Local Progress’ Convenes in Chicago!

with former CCUSD Board President Kelly Kent, former LA City Councilmember Mike Bonin, Santa Monica Rent Control Board Commissioner Kay Ambriz, and West Hollywood Mayor Chelsea Byers.

I just had the pleasure of joining hundreds of leaders at this year’s Local Progress convening in Chicago.

One highlight was meeting NYC Comptroller, nice Jewish dad, and certified mensch, Brad Lander.

With his long career of service and especially in his recent campaign for mayor, Brad reminds us that politics is a team sport. It’s not about any one of us, but all of us.

Hearing from Brad and bonding with other progressive leaders has me fired up and inspired to keep working with YOU to make positive change in Culver City…

Nothing worth doing can be done alone, but together, anything is possible.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with me. Have a great week!

In service,

- Bubba
