8 Days Left!

Hey friend,

Since the election is just 8 days away (and this will probably be my last email until then)… I have a very election-focused newsletter for you today :)

If you’re subscribed to my emails, I’m guessing you probably have a plan to vote. But just in case, I’ll say it one more time.

Vote! Vota! ¡Votez! Geh wählen! Vota! Проголосуй! Rösta! Głosuj! Ayo, memilih! Ga stemmen! Stem nå! Oyunu kullan! Stem nu!

[That’s English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Polish, Indonesian, Dutch, Norwegian, Turkish, Danish for ya!]

Vote by Nov 3, and vote early! The safest options at this point are voting in person or using a ballot drop box.

Here is a link to my ballot guide that I sent in my last email and a list of voting centers and 24/7 ballot drop off boxes.

Happy voting!

Housing Hero Awards!

I’m so grateful to be recognized with the housing hero award by Housing Action Coalition this past weekend in San Francisco. And I was doubly honored to be introduced by my personal housing hero, former Culver City Mayor Alex Fisch.

It’s getting harder for most people to afford a home in Culver City and in cities across the country, which is why over the past two years, we have made it easier than ever to build homes (especially affordable ones).

This award recognizes our work to legalize single-stair residential buildings up to 6 floors, unlocking naturally affordable homes on small lots... the first city in California to get it done.

But we didn’t stop there— we expedited projects with 20% or more affordable, legalized buying and selling backyard homes (ADUs) separately, started our own housing near transit plan to legalize thousands more homes where we need them most, and so much more that won’t even fit in this caption!

It’s what earned us California's Pro-Housing designation, granting Culver City $750,000 for affordable housing and putting us at the front of the line to receive even more.

And this is just the beginning-- we wont stop until our city is a welcoming and affordable place for working people again.

Shoutout to my co-awardee Ed Mendoza and the advocates at Livable Communities Initiative (including Martin Tomasz and Travis Morgan) who made so many of these victories possible.

Here’s to more homes! 🏡

New Video: Why I’m supporting Freddy Puza & Thomas Aujero Small for Culver City Council

There are a lot of candidates out there talking about ‘moving Culver City forward.

But talk is easy. Freddy and Thomas have actually done it.

That’s why I’m proud to support them for Culver City Council.

YES on Measure YV! Culver City Students Make Their Case

Still on the fence about Measure YV? Here it from the student organizers themselves in their brand new video.

They also penned a new op-ed in the Culver Crescent by Culver City High School students making the case for their own enfranchisement.

Win or lose, I’m inspired by their hard work and the work of the generations of students who came before them and helped them get to this point.

Want to help them get over the finish line?

Council meeting tonight!

There’s a Council meeting tonight with just one action item on the agenda:

A-1. Authorize the City Engineer and City Traffic Engineer to Approve Plans and Specifications

On consent item 13 (C-13), we are deciding whether to issue a proclamation inviting Culver City businesses to sign the business for democracy pledge. This pledge states businesses’ commitment to standing up to any efforts to undermine our free and fair elections. You can read more about the effort led by Culver City residents in the L.A. Times here.

We’re also presenting a proclamation in honor of Flilpino American History Month at the top of the meeting.

You can watch tonight’s meeting on YouTube and if you want to participate, you can sign up to speak either on Zoom or in person at Council Chambers.

Debunking the myths about Prop 40, aka the ‘billionaire tax’

One of the most talked about measures on your ballot this year is Prop 40, aka the “Billionaire Tax.“

I’ll be voting YES— it’ll raise tens of billions of dollars for healthcare, nutrition, and education services to address the loss of federal funds and other threats to those programs.

But tech billionaires have poured $340M into defeating it. So let’s clear up a few myths they’re spreading:

❌ MYTH: Billionaires can dodge it by moving away.
✅ FACT: It’s a one-time 5% tax on the roughly 200 billionaires who lived here on Jan. 1, 2026. Leaving now doesn’t get them out of it.

❌ MYTH: Politicians can expand it to tax everyone.
✅ FACT: The tax is written into the state Constitution and specifically limited to billionaire wealth. Taxing anyone other than billionaires would almost certainly have to go back to voters.

❌ MYTH: The money will be wasted or diverted.
✅ FACT: Every dollar goes into a locked fund: 90% for health care, 10% for schools and food assistance. It can’t be diverted elsewhere or used to replace existing funding, and the state has to certify that every year.

So join me in voting YES on Prop 40, to fund healthcare, food assistance, education, and weather the Trump administration’s devastating cuts.

[And don’t forget to vote NO on 41 & 42, the billionaire-funded measures designed to cancel it out.]

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with me.

Now if you haven’t yet, go vote! :)
