Committee Assignments! + Council meeting recap

Hi friends,

The Trump administration continues to be as messy and harmful as we expected, and in some ways even more so. But when they go low, we go local!

Monday night’s council meeting ended at midnight… click me below for a quick video about what went down (or keep scrolling to read it instead)

Council Meeting Recap!

  • extended childcare program at council meetings
+ increased the amount of time parents have to sign up from up to 72 hours in advance to up to 48 hours in advance

  • approved new EV charging station for West Culver City

  • approved new shade structure at Bill Botts Field

  • set date of Fiesta La Ballona for 8/22-8/24

  • assigned Councilmembers to committees

  • resurrected the Housing & Homelessness Subcommittee
Thank you to CM McMorrin for raising this and to my colleagues for supporting.

  • created the Governance & Campaign Finance Reform Subcommittee
I suggested the creation of this body which will work to improve all aspects of city governance, including access to public meetings and holding fair elections. Shout out to my colleagues for supporting this as well.

Committee Assignments

This year, I will serve on 2 boards and 9 subcommittees. Here are just a few city subcommittees I’m particularly excited about.

  1. Audit, Financial Planning and Budget - guiding our annual budget process to be more robust and participatory. Serving with CM McMorrin.

  2. Mobility - renamed from “Mobility, Traffic, and Parking” to just “Mobility” to focus on all forms of mobility. Serving with Vice Mayor Puza.

  3. Short Term Rental Policy - guides policy on short term rentals (i.e. Airbnb). Serving with Mayor O’Brien.

  4. Police Policies - guides the policies of our police department. Serving with CM Vera.

  5. Housing & Homelessness - working to increase affordability and secure housing and recovery for our unhoused residents. Serving with CM McMorrin.

  6. Governance & Campaign Finance Reform [new] - working to improve all aspects of city governance, including improving access to public meetings and holding fair elections.

Items for Future Meetings

Councilwoman Yasmine-Imani McMorrin brought forth two items which we agreed to discuss at a future meeting:

  • temporary freeze on rent increases & evictions due to impact of fires on housing market

  • report back with data on traffic collisions and fatalities over past several years

That’s it for now. Thank you for staying engaged and taking the time to catch up with me.

In gratitude,

Bubba
