We did it! (for now)

In the last meeting, Council extended the moratorium on new drive-thru businesses another 10 months while staff finalizes the permanent ordinance. Existing drive thrus will remain unaffected.

I’ll give you a heads up when the permanent ordinance comes back.

Tonight! Food trucks at parks and hotel taxes

At tonight’s Council meeting, here’s what we’ll be discussing:

A-1: Placing a measure on the November 2026 ballot to increase the ‘transient occupancy tax’ (aka TOT or hotel tax) by 2% from 14% to 16%
A-2: Creating a food truck permit program to regulate food trucks near parks
A-3: Increasing parking violation fees
A-4: Creation of a city council standing affordability subcommittee and dissolution of minimum wage ad hoc subcommittee

Culver City voters’ view of the city has improved significantly

In the last meeting, the city showed us the results of a scientific survey conducted by FM3 Research showing a 14% jump in the portion of voters who say the city is headed in the right direction compared to a year and 3 months ago, near the start of my term.

Since then, we made a historic investment in the largest affordable housing development in the city’s history, greenlit more safe streets projects, begun essential repairs to our parks facilities, made homes easier to build, stood up against ICE, and started the process of turning a gun store into 67 affordable homes for teachers.

It’s great to see the results of this work positively impacting how residents feel about their city—and we’re just getting started.

Working Families Party California Convening!

This weekend, I got to connect with forward thinking leaders at the California Working Families Party convening right here in LA.

It’s been inspiring to watch this grassroots movement grow with hundreds of major victories across the country just this year alone.

Voters are showing us the way forward— electing leaders with vision who fight to protect our rights and freedoms and make everyday life more affordable.

That means a home you can afford, healthcare for all, a good paying job, free or low cost childcare, and paid family leave. All overwhelmingly popular issues, just waiting for leaders with the political will to get it done.

Here’s to building that bright future together!
