Happy Pride Month!
Hi all,
Happy Pride Month! 🌈
Even as queer and trans people face an onslaught of attacks from this administration, I hope you're finding moments to celebrate the season—and the progress we’ve made—with your family and/or chosen family. You are valued and loved just the way you are, and your community is here for you.
Speaking of Pride… don’t forget to RSVP for the Pride event of the season!
CULVER CITY PRIDE RIDE & RALLY
📅 Saturday, June 28th, 2025
🚴 Ride at 4PM | 🎤 Rally at 6PM
Looking ahead: On Monday, June 9 at 7PM, City Council will vote on the budget—a meeting that’s shaping up to be one of the most consequential of the year.
I’ll share more soon, but if you have thoughts about how Culver City should spend its money, you may want to keep that evening open.
In the meantime, we’ve been busy at recent Council meetings, and I wanted to make sure you got the full download.

🎟️ SPECIAL EVENTS 🎟️
💰 awarded 27 special event grants for the upcoming fiscal year. The six biggest grants went to:
Downtown Independence Day Celebration
Artwalk n Roll Festival
Culver City Car Show
Screenland 5K
Culver City Pride Ride and Rally
Fiesta of Gems
🖼️ PUBLIC ART 🖼️
🌳 approved a new public art piece by famed Southern California artist Charles Gaines that will create a *steel* structure around the large tree at the corner of Washington and National.
🌞 SUSTAINABILITY 🌞
🪤 voted to ban the sale and use of glue traps, which trap insects and other animals but are known to kill these animals slowly and inhumanely while often trapping unintended animals and releasing toxic byproducts into the environment.
🚌 MOBILITY 🚌
🚴♂️ followed through on our $240,000 commitment to fund the extension of the Ballona Creek Bike Path from its current end-point at Syd Kronenthal Park East all the way to Mid-City. This project has been led by Streets for All and would be a game-changer for extending this vital bike highway an additional two miles.
🏘️ HOUSING 🏘️
🏡 approved an ordinance to allow property owners to subdivide their lot up to ten times without city council’s approval. This is in accordance with state law and should make it much easier for new projects to add more homes.
📅 reduced the number of required community meetings for housing projects from three meetings to one, making it cheaper and faster to build homes and bringing us more in line with our neighboring cities.
✍️ voted to approve my motion to endorse SB 79 by Scott Wiener and AB 609 by Buffy Wicks, two bills that allow for more housing near transit and streamline approvals. Culver City joins our Westside neighbors Santa Monica and West Hollywood in their support of these bills.
The full FY26 budget will come to Council for approval on Monday, June 9.Stay tuned for more info!
Thanks for catching up with me, and I hope you have a fabulous start to Pride Month!
