Holding on to hope
Friends and neighbors—
If you are heartbroken over the results of this election, I am right there with you.
We watched our country’s electorate lurch to the right and elect a dangerous autocrat whose plans will harm our most vulnerable neighbors including immigrants, women, queer people, Black and brown folks, and those who are unhoused or facing housing insecurity. As we prepare for a Trump presidency, local governments and advocates will need to stay vigilant and engaged.
There are also some bright spots from this election that we can celebrate right here at home where policy can have a tremendous impact on our everyday lives.
Across the County, a slew of new leaders who are well equipped to protect our cities against Trump’s dangerous agenda appear poised to win their races. In Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and here in Culver City, strong progressive leaders are on the brink of victory.
While there are still ballots left to be counted and our race is incredibly close, we are feeling optimistic about our chances of winning.
We are ahead by 85 votes and awaiting a new drop of results every day. While we wait for all ballots to be counted, I want to thank you for all of your support over the course of the past year. We could not have done this without each of you.
We now know that nearly $350,000 in right-wing special interest money poured into this election to defeat us, $86,000 of which were spent on attack ads targeting our campaign.
Landlord lobbyists, commercial developers, real estate investors, and MAGA millionaires spread outrageous lies about us through an avalanche of attack mailers.
But you stood with us for a brighter future for Culver City— one with abundant housing, safe streets, and services that meet our needs.
You wrote postcards, made phone calls, knocked on doors, talked to your neighbors, hosted canvassing days, fed our volunteers, held fundraisers, and trusted us with your generous donations.
Thank you so much for believing in our message and putting your trust in this campaign. We will keep you posted as more results come in.
Onward with hope,
Bubba
P.S. I’m including an invitation to an election healing event organized by Councilmember Freddy Puza and Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin. I plan to attend and hope to see you there.
