Special meeting tonight!
Hi all,
I hope you enjoyed a refreshing Thanksgiving with loved ones.
I had a meaningful holiday with my family (and 3 cutest nephews the world has ever known).
I wanted to quickly let you know that there’s a special city Council meeting tonight at 7PM. There’s no recognitions, action items, public hearings, or presentations.
Just two consent items:
C-1: Selection of Center for New Democratic Processes to conduct a civic assembly to improve the budget process
C-2: Replacing a pool heater at the Plunge
As always, you can watch in person at Council Chambers (9770 Culver Blvd) or remotely on Zoom or Youtube.
You can sign up to speak at the button below and send in your comment by emailing city.council@culvercity.org.
Armored Vans, Robot Deliveries, and more… 11/10 Council Recap
Here’s a quick recap the last city Council meeting. Click below to watch a recap or just read on!
Council unanimously approves program to incentivize film production
Film permit fee reductions, free production parking, and a suspension of the business tax collection for film and TV producers for 10 years, among other incentives will be included.
Updates made to rent stabilization & tenant protections ordinances
By a 4-1 vote, Council approved updates to strengthen our rent stabilization and tenant protections ordinances.
New initiatives from our housing and homelessnesss committee (me + CM McMorrin) will be coming to Council soon for consideration including:
minimum evictable rent debt
ban on algorithms setting rents
rules on increasing security deposits
Council majority votes to remove armored vans from community events
The police department is required to present their use of military equipment on an annual basis for Council to amend as they see fit.
I raised community concerns that CCPD showcased their armored vans at community events, which is not a permitted use in our AB-481 policy.
I believe we should be following our policies consistently— and that community events should be about building trust, not showcasing military-grade equipment.
My colleagues Councilmember McMorrin and Vice Mayor Puza agreed, and 3-2 voted to remove these armored vans from future community events.
Pilot program for robotic delivery devices approved
Vice Mayor Puza and I brought forth a pilot program to allow robotic delivery devices in select areas, which passed 4-0.
The program could begin operations as early as late spring 2026.
Robot delivery devices cut fossil fuel emissions by reducing car deliveries of small items, AKA “burrito taxis”
2025 Holiday Tree Lighting Sled-Tacular is this Thursday December 4 in Downtown Culver City! Would love to see you there.
Please join us in Council Chambers on the evening of December 8 to celebrate history as Culver City’s very first openly LGBTQ+ Mayor Freddy Puza is officially sworn in!
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with me.
Wishing you a fantastic start to your week!
In service,
Bubba
