A better budget is possible (with help from a spicy chicken sandwich)

Hi Friends—

It’s Tuesday afternoon. Do you know what’s in YOUR Culver City budget?

It’s understandable if you don’t!

Culver City’s budget process is broken and largely leaves the public (you) and the Council (me) out of it.

That’s the subject of an op-ed I wrote for the Culver Crescent and Culver City Crossroads (tap below!).

The city’s budget is not just a statement of our values— it touches nearly every aspect of our lives. So the fact that the community doesn’t have a real voice in the process needs to change.

That’s why I’m grateful to share that yesterday, Councilmember McMorrin and I brought forth a proposal to invest $250,000 to develop a new, community-driven budget process — one that’s transparent, participatory, and built to last.

The proposal will be coming for a vote TONIGHT. Here’s a video of me guzzling a spicy vegan chicken sandwich while I tell you all about it.

If you feel that our community should have a seat at the table when crafting a budget that impacts our daily lives, please join us in person or on Zoom tonight following the Finance presentation, the second to last presentation of tonight’s budget meeting.

We would love to hear from you!

When you sign up, just select “Finance” under “Action Item A-1” on the second page.

Thank you for standing with us for a better budget process!

With gratitude and excitement for a better budget,

Bubba
