Feeling grateful for family, turkey, and you.
From my family to yours, happy Thanksgiving!
I hope your day is filled with moments to recharge, gather around the table with loved ones, and savor massive helpings of pie and gratitude.
I wanted to take this opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks to you for showing up for our campaign this year.
We were only able to win a seat at City Hall, because you believed in our ability to make positive change together.
It was the donations you sent, the doors you knocked, the postcards you wrote, the signs you put up, and your constant positive energy that got us over the finish line.
And now, because of your support, I have the pleasure of inviting you to the meeting where I will be officially sworn in as your Councilmember. I would be honored to share this moment with you.

Culver City Hall
7:00 PM - meeting starts
8:00 PM-9:00 PM (estimate) - swearing in begins
I’m also looking forward to celebrating Mayor McMorrin as she concludes her year as Mayor and begins her next term on City Council. I am ready to work with her and all of my colleagues to create a more affordable, sustainable, and inclusive city.
Like so many of you, I remain deeply concerned about how the Trump administration will impact our most vulnerable communities.
The incoming cabinet appears more dangerous by the day, so it is more important than ever to get engaged, get organized, and be in community with one another.
That’s why we put together a list of organizations you may be interested in supporting in the coming year.
These are just a few groups I have volunteered with or supported over the years in Culver City. Each group advocates for values and policies that will help protect vulnerable communities from Trump’s agenda.
Most accept new members, volunteers, and/or donations. I’ve linked to their websites below, but they are easily findable on social media as well.
Our Culver
Local advocacy group that has recently been active around the city budget to get more resources for parks, playgrounds, and street safety. Our Culver continues to bring new voices into civic life and advocate for a city budget that reflects our values.
Culver City Democratic Club
CCDC is the oldest progressive Democratic club in the County and the only Democratic club in Culver City that is entirely funded by its members. Becoming a member is a great way to help grassroots candidates and causes.
Bike Culver City
BCC fights for more than just bike lanes; better sidewalks and safe pedestrian crossings, fast and frequent public transit, safe streets, and cleaner air. This is where I got my start in local organizing.
Culver City for More Homes
Our housing crisis is out of control, and it will take all of us to push for a more affordable city. CC4MH is a great place to get involved. Allowing for more housing in Culver City is one of the most impactful things we can do to stop the rising cost of living and ensure that Culver City is welcoming to people of all incomes and backgrounds.
Protect Culver City Renters
Renters make up half of Culver City’s population, yet they have historically been an afterthought at City Hall. In fact, I’m only the 3rd renter to ever win a seat on the City Council, and Culver City only just passed rent control in 2020. Fighting for renters’ protections will be critical to ensuring Culver City remains a refuge for vulnerable neighbors during this next chapter.
Ballona Creek Renaissance
BCR organizes for impactful environmental policies like shutting down our oil wells, phasing out single use plastics, and stopping waste from flowing into Ballona Creek. BCR also hosts several cleanups of Ballona Creek each year which have removed thousands of pounds of trash from the creek. As Trump’s cabinet welcomes more climate deniers, local groups like BCR will be even more important to support.
Culver City Pride
Culver City Pride organizes Culver City’s annual official Pride celebration each year, typically at the end of June. Organizing will begin soon. Trump and the Republican Party have been waging war against queer and trans people for years, and it’s only ramping up. We’ll need inclusive spaces and organizations like Culver City Pride to ensure that all of us feel welcome and safe here.
There are many more organizations and ways to get involved than those I listed here, so feel free to find the ones that speak to you. However you get involved, you are doing your part to protect our progress in Culver City and keep us moving forward.
I hope to see you on Monday 12/9 at Culver City Hall for the swearing in ceremony!
Until then, wishing you a joyous and refreshing Thanksgiving to you and yours!
With love and gratitude,
Bubba
