Not all Democrats…
Hi friends,
What an exciting week.
Watching the Democratic Party lay out our positive vision of the future has me energized.
As I knocked doors this week, I could hear the sounds of convention speeches pouring out of homes as I passed them. When I spoke with voters, we bonded over the hope we finally feel for our future.
Politics can be so grueling and disappointing at times. It can be easy to fall into cynicism and turn away from it altogether.
But to see our community fired up and ready to win has refueled me to keep pushing for positive change in Culver City.
As Democrats, we pride ourselves on having a large coalition. But as we know, not all Democrats stand up for Democratic values in their own backyards.
While Democrats are eager to defeat Trump and his harmful platform, some Dems still fight against more housing in their neighborhood, a position that directly harms people in their own community.
One of my opponents, a Democrat, fought against more housing in our jobs-rich and transit-friendly neighborhoods and abstained from funding 99 units of affordable housing because the application required a new bike lane to be built along with it.
As a result, rents in Culver City have continued to explode, now averaging $3.5K/mo— wildly unaffordable for most people.
I’ve met young adults who can’t afford to move out of their parents' homes, seniors at risk of displacement, and workers with exhausting commutes.
The pain of this housing crisis is felt every day by our community, and yet, our Council majority has done nothing to address it.
So it’s not enough to just elect Democrats— we need to elect Democrats who will fight for all of us.
That’s why I was thrilled to hear leaders across the party this week affirm that building more housing in our cities is, indeed, a core Democratic value.
President Obama declared “we need to build more units & clear away [the] outdated laws and regulations that made it harder to build homes for working people.”
And last night, Vice President Harris promised to “end America’s housing shortage.”
To hear our party’s leaders finally echo the pain we have been feeling for years in cities across the country is validating. Their words underscore that the fight for more housing in our cities is a fight for a country that truly welcomes all of us.
As the only renter in this race, I am deeply committed to creating housing for families of all incomes.
That’s why I am so proud to be endorsed by pro-housing organizations like Abundant Housing LA, Housing Action Coalition, and Califorinia Democratic Renters’ Council.
There’s nothing we can’t accomplish together if we act. As Michelle Obama said, “don’t just sit around and complain—do something!”
If you’re ready to help create more housing that welcomes all families, please contribute $50 today.
We’re still $12K shy of our goal and need a final fundraising push for yard signs, social media ads, and voter outreach.
